Father's Day

by Joseph A. Farina

i see myself
i see my fear
reflected in your eyes
mirrored in small movements
that cannot be disguised
we have become transparent
living in each others skin
you know i have no cures
to give you,
no spells or prayers
to ward away
the coming night
but know, that if i could
by blood and purpose
i would take upon your pain
shield you from uncertainty
and lessen
as a father should
what he can't take away.
